This Sunday saw Hockey Club Luxembourg’s Youth Team travel to Trier to round off a highly successful indoor season against local German teams in the Rheinland-Pfalz youth hockey league. |

In their first match against SG Neunkirchen/FCK, HCL was the dominating team from the outset, with Dorsan Thieren tipping the ball around the goal post only minutes into the game following a textbook pass from Sebastiaan van Gilst through the centre of the field. Neunkirchen countered swiftly only to be thwarted by the rock-solid defence put up by HCL’s Danielle van Gilst and Sophie Courtel.
The second half featured a close call for HCL from a penalty corner and stylish defending from Trix de Vries and Matthijs Geurtz who averted numerous attacks. Pierre Courtel set up a series of chances with some rapid and accurate passes, allowing frontman Pierre Briey to notch up another three goals for the Luxembourg club. Finally, the smallest team member, Anton Agassi, whipped the ball into the goal again after a fine team build-up.
The second match against a high-calibre TFC Ludwigshafen line-up proved a greater challenge for the HCL youngsters, who were forced to concede the match by two goals to their worthy opponents, despite some inspired tackling by Michael Agassi and Jasper Hoare, stalwart goalkeeping by Jasper Geurtz and several near misses at the net.
The final match against Post Trier started slowly but heated up in the sixth minute after the first goal by the German team. HCL stepped up a gear and with great determination pushed the ball relentlessly and repeatedly into their opponents’ net, ending the game with a well-deserved 6-1 victory.
