Moving on up... Namur vs. HCL 2 - 3 (16-10-2006)

On a sunny Sunday afternoon HCL met at 1430 in Cessange to depart into the great unknown… now know as Namur. Arriving just in time for push back, due to the traffic jam en-route, we started the game with a very defensive formation. However, after 5 minutes and our first nice combination of passes between Byran, J. Paffenholz and Scott, Hodson finished well at the far post giving HCL a 1-0 lead.

Junior, Kieffer and J. Paffenholz missed some early goal-chances, and somehow the 2-0 lead just didn’t come. The rest of the first half was well defended and only one short corner a few seconds before the end of the first half gave Namur an underserved equaliser.

In the second half HCL started well and a good run from Byran, followed by a nice pass to J. Paffenholz, led to a brilliant reverse stick shot, from the top of the D, which finished in the top right corner of the goal leaving the Namur keeper stranded (for Nigel and Daniel, you are not the only ones who didn’t see that goal, as I didn’t either....because it was so fast he he!).

After some good saves from Sprenger in goal, an unfortunate helmet loss led "in the new rule of the umpire" to a surprising short corner, which was scored by Namur to bring the game to a 2-2 draw. With a fighting spirit, HCL bounced back and some good passes from Heal through the midfield to the attackers led to M. Paffenholz scoring the winning goal of the game, although we did have several disallowed for some strange reasons.

Special thanks to our temporary goalie, R Sprenger, who did a good job as Jeffrey was apparently once more not in the mood (slightly unfair but… whatever).

This nice win now places us 3rd in the league and reminds the Belgian opposition that HCL is a force to be reckoned with and Fortress Cessange is definitely a place to be feared.
